26.4.57 Church of All Saints

II*

1877, by Colson. Medieval church virtually rebuilt, but with re-use of old material.
Chancel, nave, south aisle (shorter than nave at the west end), western bell turret set
diagonally. Red tile roofing; small broach spire to wood-framed turret. Flint
walling, buttresses (with stone dressings) on the north side, and diagonally set at the
corners of the nave and chancel, plinth. Small re-used lancet in the chancel, other
windows of the restoration period, including traceried 3-light east window.
Timber-framed south porch. Inside, the arcade has pointed arches, resting on 2
octagonal columns with moulded caps and bases, apparently of the C13 re-used. The
restoration chancel arch rests on attached short columns, with floral caps and brackets
in the form of carved heads.
