SU 43 SE HEADBOURNE WORTHY BEDFIELD LANE

6/17 Laundry Cottage

30.3.81 II

Cottage. C17 and C18 restored 1983. Timber-frame encased and replaced by cob
and flint and brick, thatched roof. End on to road. 3 bay, 1 storey and
attic cottage. Central bay surviving timber-frame encased in brick, with, at
road end C18 planked door in solid frame with baffle entry. Road end bay
brick with flint panels and cob bay at far end. In each bay irregular 2-light
casement with above 2-light casement in eyebrow dormer with tiled tray below.
Roof hipped with C18 stack above door. Inside except for road bay building
open to collar of queen post and clasped purlin roof. Chimney internally is
large with bread oven and remains of smoke hood. Behind house C19 laundry
building linked to cottage with C20 extension.
