Description

SX 86 NE KINGSKERSWELL GREENHILL ROAD, (west side),
Kingskerswell
3/170 Foredown Farmhouse
-
21.6.77
- II
Farmhouse. C17 or earlier re-fronted and re-modelled internally in C18 with C19 and
C20 rear extensions, modernised internally in C20.
Rendered rubble walls. Slate roof gabled to left, half hipped to right. 2 rendered
rubble stacks, one lateral at rear and one projecting at left gable end. Rendered
brick lateral stack at rear.
Originally 3-room and through-passage plan with rear lateral stack to hall and gable
stack to left-hand room; position of passage unclear due to C18 remodelling of
interior and C20 modernisation. At present 3 rooms with C19/C20 extensions along
rear wall.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front, 4 on ground floor. First floor left and
left of centre windows and ground floor left are 3-light C20 casements with glazing
bars. The other windows are circa mid C20 metal frame casements with small panes;
that on ground floor left of centre may originally have been a doorway, the others
have possibly C18 wooden architraves with beaded edges. Door to right of centre is
probably C18 6-panel, top 2 fielded middle 2 glazed. Flat doorhood is supported on
carved wooden brackets and has moulded cornice. Moulded and modillion cornice under
eaves. At rear is probably C19 wing to left and C19/C20 outshuts to right.
Interior: few original or C18 features are visible on the ground floor although
some are likely to be concealed.
