SX 48 NE LEW TRENCHARD LEW QUARRY

4/96 House about 60m west of Lew Quarry
- Cottage

House, at one time 2 cottages associated with the adjacent slate quarry. Circa early
to mid C18. Whitewashed and rendered, thatched at the left, asbestos slate roof at
the right. Gable end stacks, rendered at the left end, stone with brick shaft at
right end. Single depth plan with rear left outshut under slate lean-to roof.
Single storey 2- + 2-window front. Central blocked doorway to thatched half of the
house, C20 entrance at rear. Windows C19 2-light casements with glazing bars.
Interior not inspected: said to have blocked fireplace to left gable end stack and
exposed joists. The cottages are likely to have been used by quarrymen.
