Description

KINGSTON VILLAGE CENTRE
SX 64 NW

Robins Farm

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably C17, much modified in C20. Rubble, slate roof. Plan
difficult to read: at the left end is a former stair section by gable stack (now
abutting Robins Cottage qv), and right end is slightly stepped forward, with
higher eaves level; there is some suggestion of raised walling, and the roof may
formerly have been thatched to a steeper pitch; a 1947 view also shows a large
stack at the point where the step forward occurs. Front to road is 2 storeys;
at left, mid-height is small stair window, an early casement with wood mullion
and iron stanchion bars, then 4-light and 3-light C20 glazing bar casements
flanking part-glazed door under pent hood with stone slates; also small single
light to right of door. First floor has two 2-light glazing bar casements, that
above the door probably C19, and a 5-light C20 casement in the projecting
portion: in the 1947 view this was 3-light. All windows to wood lintels. Right
return is rendered, and has a much modified extension including an external
stack; lean-to garage not of special interest. Back has 2 gables. Interior not
inspected, but reputed to be much modified; turret stair to back.
