CHITTLEHAMHOLT

Cottage. Late C18 or early C19. Extended at each end and porch added 1942-6. Unrendered stone rubble. Hipped thatch roof with ornamental ridge. Brick ridge stack (formerly gable end). Originally two-room cottage, internal partitions removed in C20 with two-storey extensions each of one-room plan added at each end in C20. Original cottage has two-window range. Two-light casements to upper storey, three-light casements to ground floor flanking porch with hipped thatched roof. Left-hand extension has three-light window above French windows, that to right has two-light casement six panes per light above two-light casement, two panes per light. Small leanto to rear right end.

Interior: Principally altered in C20. Ceiling beam in original cottage said to have come from Eggesford House. Roof has rough pegged trusses with straight principals.
