Formerly row of 6 cottages, now 4 cottages. Mid-to late-C18 with C19 and C20
alterations. Slobbered rubble except Hill Dene which is rendered, painted stone
dressings, stone slate roof. Each cottage originally had central staircase plan.
2 storeys, double fronted. Plain surrounds to central entrance, 6-panel doors.
Two 2-light recessed flat faced mullioned windows per storey; C20 casements or
sashes without glazing bars. Left or right-hand ridge stacks. No 1 now also
includes former left-hand cottage which was altered in C19 and now only retains
one C18 2-light window; c1970 plank door. Hill Dene now also includes former single
bay right-hand cottage; plank door. Left-hand ground floor window of Hill Dene
was lowered in c1900; mullion now missing; C20 casements. Included for group value.
