Cairn Cottage

House, now tea-rooms. Early C18, with alterations and additions of circa mid
C19 and C20. Painted stone rubble and cob. Slurried slate roof with ridge tiles
and gable ends. Gable end stacks with rendered shafts.
Plan: 2-room plan with central entrance, each room heated from a gable end stack.
Straight stair inserted in the full width of the passage. C20 addition at the
left side.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 4-window front. Ground floor has two C19 3-
light casements to left and one 2-light casement to right. Central C20 door.
First floor has three hipped dormers to left and one to right, all with C19 6-
pane sashes. Right end has C20 casement at ground floor to left. Left end has
single storey C20 addition.
Interior: Straight stair in the passage. First floor to left early C18 2-
panelled door. C19 beams in the ground floor rooms.
