18/229 Tanton headstone approximately
- 4 metres south-east of the porch
of the Church of St Giles

GV II

Small headstone. Dated 1797 in memory of Daniel Tanton. Upright square-headed slab
standing approximately 300 millimetres high. The front is inscribed in Roman serif
upper and lower case lettering and records a sad and cautionary tale: "In memory of
Daniel Tanton. By firing off a gun it burst the breach of which sunk in his head
where it remained 9 weeks, on extraction of which he expired, ye 20th of January
1797, Aged 17 years".
