GV II

Farmhouse. C18 with C17 rear wing. Rendered stone rubble and cob. Front roof
hipped and thatched with gabled brick stacks, external to right and with slate
weatherings. Gable ended asbestos slated (in diamond pattern) roof to rear wing
with axial brick stack. 2-room central stair plan to front. Wing to rear right
originally 3-room and through-passage plan sited across the contour, the downhill
(lower) end demolished and/or incorporated in C18 remodelling. Outshut in angle
continuing from old passage. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window south east front.
Central doorway with panelled door, window over. Other windows wider. All with
transomed casements inserted circa 1920. Rear wing has older C19 2-light casements
in irregular arrangement. C20 latticed lean-to porch.
Interior of C18 part modernised circa 1920 but open hearth with reused lintel from
cider barn and original roof structure with pegged collars survives. 2 oak
crossbeams survive in C17 wing and lintel with stepped stops and splayed monolith
granite jambs to fireplace which backs onto original cross passage. Curved recess
between fireplace and window possibly built in settle. Beyond original hall is
inner room formerly unheated.
