Four terraced houses (1837-47). Located in SW 'close' of
Barnsbury Square. Stock bricks covered with banded stucco to
ground-floors and stucco to upper floors; roofs obscured by
parapet, centre party-wall brick stacks. Side-hall entrance
plan. Projecting end blocks of three storeys and basement; 3
windows each. Centre block of two storeys, basement and attic;
4 windows each. Steps rise to entrance in outer bay of end
blocks and inner bay of centre block: doorway with pilaster
jambs carrying corniced-heads, reeded surround, original
panelled door and rectangular overlight with margin lights.
Ground-floor 6/6 sashes to end blocks and 6/6 sashes with 2/2
side-lights to centre block, all with plain stucco surrounds.
1st floor sill band beneath full-length architraved 6/6 sashes
with bracketed cornice: outer sashes of centre block with 2/2
side-lights and pedimented cornice. Continuous balcony
supported by iron brackets and with iron railings to end
blocks; centre blocks with individual iron balconies.
Continuous modillioned cornice above 1st floor. Architraved
6/6 sashes to 2nd floor end blocks; horizontal attic windows
to centre block. Continuous moulded cornice above. Exposed
brick returns.
