12 terraced houses. c.1817-1822. By James Goulden, builder.
Yellow and brown stock bricks with banded stucco ground-floor;
artificial and Welsh slate mansard roofs, brick party-wall
stacks. Side-hall entrance plan with staircase. Three storeys,
basement and attic dormers; 2 windows each. Segmental arched
ground-floor openings. Low steps rise to entrance (nos. 42-50
to right bay; nos. 52-60 to left bay; end houses with side
entrances, no. 40 with C20 alterations): doorway with fluted
1/4 column jambs carrying corniced-head, original 3-panelled
door, and (nos. 44, 48, & 54-58) fanlight with curved and
radial glazing bars (nos. 40-42, 46, 52, 54 plain; nos. 50 &
60 patterned). 6/6 sashes throughout: ground-floor with curved
and radial glazing bars; gauged brick flat-arches to upper
floors. 1st floor full-length sashes with stucco sill band and
coupled iron-bracketed balconies (nos. 40 & 44 balconies
missing) with Vitruvian scroll and palmette pattern to
cast-iron railings. Plain parapets with stone coping. Attached
cast-iron area railings with urn finials.
