Bank, now redundant. Early C20. Red thin Flemish-bond
brickwork with stone dressings and decoration. Roofs are
gabled behind parapets with Westmorland slate on NE and Welsh
slate on SW.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attics and single-storey block
attached to NW end. Front elevation has quatrefoil pierced
parapet, similar bands between storeys and above first-floor
windows. 4 gabled dormers break through parapet and are linked
by attached half-octagonal shafts to stone mullioned and
transomed windows on the first floor. Similar shafts on each
external corner and all surmounted by crocket finials (some
damaged). The ground floor has 3 large 8-paned, stone
mullioned and transomed windows with metal casements.
Main entrance projects forward between octagonal shafts and
has 'Bank' in carved stone sanserif letters in panel over.
Single-storey block has 2 similar windows and these, and 2 of
main block, have wrought-iron screens of Art Nouveau character
in lower third. Second entrance door to manager's flat has
moulded jambs, frieze of quatrefoils and 2-light fanlight.
General Flemish/late Gothic character. Rear has a 2-storey
flat-roofed projection with a parapeted gable extending to
attic level and one large red brick stack.
INTERIOR: expensively decorated and relatively complete.
Semicircular arch on consoles, leads to manager's flat
staircase which has open well, turned hardwood balusters and
newels with finials. First-floor room has elaborate Adamesque
fireplace and there are 3 faience fireplaces contemporary with
building.
