Farmhouse. C18 and early C19.
MATERIALS: squared coursed limestone rubble with a Ham Hill
stone, stepped-back doorcase, steep-pitched slate roof,
stepped stone coping with moulded kneelers, and truncated
brick stacks to gable ends.
PLAN: 2-unit plan with cupboard stairs to the rear right,
flanked by lower wings, and brick outshut to the rear.
EXTERIOR: 2-storeys; symmetrical 2-window range to main block.
Main block has flat stone arches over early C19
eight-over-eight-pane sashes in forward frames and plank door
in square-headed stone architrave to centre. Windows to the
wings, each of one-window range, are 2-light casements under
wooden lintels, that to the right-hand ground-floor is
3-light, the central light is shuttered. Those to the
left-hand wing are blocked, and a lintel to a former door
abutts the main block. The upper courses of the wings are of
larger stones, suggesting a raising of the roof.
INTERIOR: half-blocked open fireplace with an oak lintel to
the right gable end, 2 wall cupboards below the stairs, and a
raised-and-fielded 8-panel door to the left-hand room, are
early C18. The fireplace to the left gable end is a c1860
arch-plate register grate.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Ham Hill stone gate piers with moulded
caps and a C20 gate are flanked by limestone rubble walls
which curve back to join the house on the left, and meet
another wall attached to the house, on the right.
