1353-0/2/9 West Standen House

GV II

House. Oldest part dated 1690 with the initials R C A, altered
and with L-shaped wing built on c1840. Stuccoed with slate
roof and brick chimneystacks. 2 storeys and attics with
irregular fenestration. Late C17 rear range has 1 dormer, 9
paned sash to 1st floor and 3 light sash to ground floor.
c1840 L wing has mainly 12 paned sashes gables in one of which
is a 3-light canted bay with marginal glazing bars. In the
angle is a Tuscan porch with pilasters. Rear elevation of
older wing is of painted brick in English bond. C18 brewhouse
attached to this. Interior of older wing has a spine beam with
2 brick chamfers and early C19 staircase with scrolled tread
ends and mahogany handrail. Kitchen has corner cupboard with
serpentine shelves and fielded panelling. 1st floor entrance
to coachman's loft. Brewhouse has a wide fireplace with
bricked in bread oven and roof of angled queen struts and
through purlins.
