Description

ST ISSEY TREGONCE
SW 97 SW
4/245 Tregonce Farmhouse on north east of
settlement at Tegonce

GV II

Farmhouse, now private house. Circa early C17. The eaves raised in the late C19.
Slate stone rubble with moulded plinth. Regular slate roof with gable ends and
crested ridge tiles. End stacks with rebuilt brick shafts.
Plan: Probably originally of 2-room and cross passage plan heated by end stacks with
larger hall kitchen on right and smaller parlour on left and stone turretted stair in
projection to rear of the passage. The 1-room plan wing to rear right is
probably a slightly later extension although it does contain a C17 mullion window.
In circa mid C19 a barn was added to the rear and in the late C19 the eaves of the
house were raised and the roof structure replaced. In the late C20 an extension was
added to the rear left.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Regular 3-window front with entrance to left of centre. C20
glazed door in C19 slate porch flanked by C20 12-pane and 16-pane sashes. The C17
ovolo- moulded timber lintels above these windows are for slightly wider openings.
First floor has 3 late C19 16-pane sashes in segmental arched brick openings. In
wing to rear right C17 timber ovolo-moulded mullion window.
Interior: Several C17 doors on first floor with moulded cover strips. Remains of
stone newel stair. Roof structure replaced (not inspected).
