ST 66 NE KELSTON CHURCH ROAD (off)

3/98 Old School House

G.V. II

Village and estate school, now a private house. Dated 1863 and "IJ"on shield
plaques, for Inigo-Jones estate. Coursed rubble with freestone dressings;
slate roof with coped raised verges on moulded kneelers; diagonal ashlar stacks
with moulded cornice. 2 storeys. 4 bays: 3-light casement windows on ground
floor and 2-lights on first, all in plain chamfered mullions and surrounds and
under dripmoulds. 2 storey gabled porch off-centre to left; moulded and
4-centre headed doorway; cartouche and 2-light window above. Part of an intact
and unaltered mid-Victorian estate village.
