3/88 Great Hackworthy Cottage

Small house. Circa early C19 or earlier, small C20 extension at left end. Main
range whitewashed rendered cob, thatched roof gabled at ends, end stacks with brick
shafts. C20 addition with asbestos slate roof weatherboarded at first floor level.
2 rooms wide with left and right heated rooms on either side of a central passage
each room heated from gable end stacks, and rear service rooms in an outshut that may
be integral. C20 1-room plan addition at left end.
2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front with with C20 central front door with gabled
porch canopy. Fenestration of C19/C20 3-light casements, 3 panes per light except
above front door which is a 2-light casement, 3 panes per light. The rear outshut
has a continuously thatched catslide roof and C20 central thatched porch.
No access to interior at time of survey (1985) but interior features may survive.
A good example of a small cob and thatch house, gable end to the road.
