Formerly 2 separate houses, at end of terrace, now one address
including No 40. Early/mid C18. Brick. Former No 40 on partial
rubble plinth, slate roof, brick end stacks, single-brick string
courses and brick pilaster strips. Main front range with long rear
extension of C19, 3 storeys. 4 windows, 12-pane sashes with brick
voussoirs, more splayed on first floor than second. Ground floor
has half square, half canted bay window to left with sloping glazed
roof, supported on 2 iron brackets; central doorcase with shallow
flat wooden hood on long consoles and 6-panel door up 2 stone
steps, top 2 panels glazed, rest fielded; triple sash bow window to
right with wood dentil cornice and flanking small leaded pointed-
arch windows with single light. Remains of fairly large timber
lintels on both sides on ground floor. No 42 on dressed and coursed
stone plinth, Cotswold stone slate roof, brick stacks to left,
moulded stone modillion cornice with left hand return, brick
parapet and pilaster strips. Single range, 2 storeys and basement.
4 windows, 12-pane sash with splayed brick voussoirs and moulded
wood architraves. 2 similar to left on ground floor; central door
of 6 fielded panels up 3 large splayed stone steps with wood dentil
cornice supported on long consoles. To right, triple sash bow
window also with wood dentil cornice, and with bull-nosed sill.
Rear corner of left hand return is curved on ground floor.
