4/38 North and south inner piers
adjoining to east of Inner
North Dock

2 piers to east of inner north dock. c.1828-35 by William Chapman with contemporary
revisions by Rennie and Telford. Very large blocks of dressed Penshaw sandstone up
to 2.5 metres in length. North pier with extension to east and south and short
south pier have slightly battered walls c.7m high. South-east entrance has pair of
cast-iron mooring posts and C19 capstan. South pier partly rebuilt in late C20.
