C18 and C19 building. Originally it was the town Bridewell and Goal, later
used for a local weaving industry and now converted into flats. Built on
a half H plan with long wings extending to the south. The east wing is
of red brick and the west wing is faced in white brick with rusticated brick
quoins. Two storeys and cellars. One:three:one window range of bar and
transom casements with semi-circular arched heads. The centre part, of
3 window range, breaks forward slightly with rusticated quoins and a modillion
pediment with a panel in the tympanum carved with links and a chain. Roofs
tiled, hipped at the north and south ends.
