Pair of terrace houses. c. 1740. Brown brick, slate roofs. 3
storeys, basements and pediment dormered mansards. Each 3 windows wide. No 12-12A
has had front renovated. Doorway to right early C19 with semi-
circular fanlight and mid C20 display window. No 13 has doorway
to right and mid C20 shop front. Upper floors have recessed sashes,
no glazing bars under flat gauged arches on No 13 but wider spaced
with segmental arches to No 12. 1st floor stone plat band and
stone cornice below parapet. No 12-12A has tablet commemmorating
the residence of George Grote, historian. No 13 has early C19
cast iron balconettes to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings, No
12 with stone obelisks in front of doorway. Interior of No 12: Ground floor
altered but 1st floor largely intact with panelled front room with
Vitruvian dado and enriched cornice and back room and closet also
panelled as are 2nd floor rooms; early C19 geometrical staircase
between front and back from 1st floor up etc. Part of the
Burlington Estate.
