Terraced town houses. c.1776-88, as part of the south side of the Duke of
Manchester's development of the square on Portman Estate land. Brown
brick, No. 9 with stuccoed ground floor; concealed slate roofs. 4 storeys
and basements. 3-window wide fronts. Square headed doorways to left
approached by short flights of steps over areas; panelled doors and
fanlights in wood architraves with half pilasters and cornices. Recessed
sashes, some with glazing bars, under flat gauged arches. Stucco plat
bands and cornices over 2nd floors; stone coped parapets. Cast iron area
railings with flambé torch or urn finials. For the corner house with Duke
