Description

WIDECOMBE-IN-
SX 67 NE THE-MOOR
1/146 Clapper bridge about 60 metres
- south-east of West Shallowford
Farmhouse
- II

Clapper bridge across West Webburn river on road between East and West Shallowford
farmhouses. Probably C18 or early C19. Granite rubble. Bridge has 3 spans with a
series of broad granite lintels resting on piers and abutments built of large,
roughly-shaped granite blocks. The centre lintel on the upstream face has been
replaced by small stones supported by an iron strip. Parapets have coping-stones of
roughly-dressed granite blocks. The ends of the parapets splay outwards at the foot
in the manner of buttresses, and are finished with the same type of coping-stone.
