HILDENBOROUGH
NOBLE TREE ROAD (south side)
Gate piers and pair of gates at the entrance to Mountains

GV
II

Gate piers, gates and fencing. Probably 1865, contemporary with Mountains and
probably designed by G. Somers Clarke for the Johnson family. Sandstone gate
piers; iron gates. High Victorian Gothic.

Gate piers square on plan at the base the upper sections octagonal; pair of
iron gates; 2 sections of outward curving fencing to left and right.

Elaborate High Victorian gate piers, the upper parts battered, one batter with
a brattished cornice. Each pier is crowned with a Gothic style iron lamp
bracket with ornamental detail. The gates have curved diagonal braces, spike
finials, a solid middle rail with pierced ornament and a standard ornamented
with wrought iron foliage.

A well-preserved example of a High Victorian gateway.
