Description

LEWANNICK
SX 27 NE
Knighton Farmhouse
4/11
II
GV
Farmhouse. Probably C17 origins extended in the circa mid C19. Stone rubble,
rendered on front. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Rendered brick shafts to end
stacks and brick shaft to side lateral stack.
Plan: Overall 'L' shaped plan. Front range of 2 room and cross passage plan heated
by end stacks. Double depth wing to rear left heated by axial and side lateral
stacks with unheated outbuildings on far end. The left hand side of this wing appears
to contain the remains of the earlier farmhouse whilst the right hand side is
probably a mid C19 addition.
Exterior: Two storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-window front with C19 16-pane hornless
sashes. C19 panelled door with C19 glazed porch with margin glazing bars. The rear
wing has an asymmetrical 4-window front with C19 12-pane and 16-pane sashes on ground
and first floor. The left hand (rear) elevation of this wing has early C19 windows
ventilating the dairy.
Interior: Not inspected. It is possible that there may be some interesting features
which have been covered over in the earlier part of the rear wing.
