Description

WARSILL HALL LANE
SE 26 NW (north end)

4/173 Warsill Hall Farmhouse

6.3.67

- II

House now farmbuilding. Mid-late C17, altered C19. Coursed squared
gritstone, graduated stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Central 6-panel
door in an inserted plain stone surround. Recessed-chamfered mullion
windows throughout, those flanking the door are of 2 lights and are taller
than the 3-light first-floor windows which have hoodmoulds. Rear: no
original openings, inserted door left, central window, and external stone
steps to first-floor door, right. Interior: plain surround to blocked C18
fireplace ground floor, right. The house was probably longer originally,
the kneelers and gable copings being missing and the present farmhouse to
right appearing to have been built over the former door position, as shown
by the alterations by the C17 stonework ground floor right. Barn (left) and
house (right) not of special interest. Warsill Hall stands on the site of a
grange of Fountains Abbey.
