Also known as: Vaults Hall LOW PAVEMENT.
2 town houses, now offices. c1733 and late C18, restored late
C20. Red brick with painted ashlar dressings and plain tile
roofs with 2 gable and 2 rear wall stacks. Moulded eaves
cornice.
3 storeys plus attics; 8 window range. Double depth plan.
Windows are 12-pane sashes with moulded surrounds and cornice
keystones. Ground floor has in the centre 4 windows flanked by
wooden doorcases with pediments, the right one Ionic, the left
Doric. Original moulded panelled door to right, beaded
panelled door to left. Attics have 4 hipped dormers.
Rear elevation has to right a symmetrical front, mid C18, 4
storeys; 5 window range. Graduated courses of glazing bar
sashes, all with shaped lintels, with first floor sill band
and modillion eaves cornice. Central wooden doorcase with
pediment on scroll brackets, 6-panel door and fanlight. Large
irregular gabled wing to left.
INTERIORS: now linked, retain various original features
including a wooden dogleg stair with paired twist and turned
balusters and ramped handrail, service stair with stick
balusters, and winder stair with intersecting string and
turned balusters. On the ground floor, a large wooden
fireplace, late C18, and an incomplete panelled room. On the
first floor, a fully panelled room and a late C18 fireplace.
Other rooms have moulded cornices, friezes, niches and
panelled doors. The cellars were formerly used by the
Woolstaplers.
