Gateways and screens at north end of Embankment

GV II

Gateways and screens at north end of Victoria Embankment. c1901-05. Probably by T Wallis Gordon, Corporation Surveyor. Ashlar, with wrought-iron gates and cast-iron railings. Square piers with plinths, cornices and shallow pyramidal caps. In the centre, a pier flanked by pairs of gates to the roadways. On each side, a screen wall with smaller end piers, with concave top and cast-iron railing. Footpaths on each side. Part of the original landscaping of Victoria Embankment, largely paid for by Sir Jesse Boot. Included for group value.
