Bridge House

GV II

Also known as: Tower House HUNSLET ROAD.
Shops and office block. c1875. Moulded red brick, ashlar
details, roof not visible, moulded stack to rear. 5 storeys,
on a triangular island site at the road junction to south of
Leeds Bridge.
Entrance on north corner flanked by fluted pilasters with
Corinthian capitals, similar entrances to other 2 corners,
pilasters also divide up the shop windows.
West and east facades similar: with 4 and 6 tall first-floor
windows, segmental arches, bands of elaborate moulded brick at
floor and impost levels; upper floors are lower, with 8 and 9
windows, a continuous moulding to window heads, deep dentilled
cornice to 4th storey. The top storey has more elaborate
Norman-style arcading and ornate pierced parapet.
Rear: panelled door in stone surround to right of centre;
decorative bands are carried around the building, the line
broken by the paired stair windows.

The character of the building is similar to those on the south

above.
