House, now shop and offices. 1743, remodelled and extended mid
C19; C20 shopfront. Red brick in Flemish bond, with timber
cornice, pantile roof and brick stack.
EXTERIOR: 4-storey, 5-window front. Shopfront incorporates
passage entrance in plain pilaster and moulded cornice
doorcase at left end. Windows on first and second floors are
12-pane sashes with sills and flat arches of contrasting
gauged brick: third floor windows are 3-light Yorkshire
sliding sashes. Raised brick string courses to second and
third floors. Moulded frieze beneath massive cornice on block
brackets, returned at each end; dated rainwater head,
initialled FI, to right of centre bay.
INTERIOR: first floor: C19 staircase rises from first to third
floor having open string, shaped treadends, turned balusters
and serpentine handrail, wreathed at foot on turned newel.
Front right room has fireplace in surround enriched with
ribbon and flower mouldings, frieze with floral centre panel
between foliate arabesques and enriched cornice shelf:
overmantel panel has eared surround and scrollneck pediment
enclosing blank cartouche. Upper part of walls fitted with
moulded sunk panelling over moulded dado rail and with
enriched modillion cornice.
