Late C18, circa 1800 house of 3 storeys and basement red brick. Bracketed moulded
wood cornice to gable end slate roof. 3 window front with entrance in right hand
ground floor bay. Recessed sashes, glazing bars intact, those on ground floor
with painted stucco architrave surrounds and panelled aprons, flat gauged brick
arches. Door of 6 fielded panels, panelled reveal, with semi-circular fanlight,
radial glazing with cast lead ornament, all deeply recessed in lobby with intersecting
barrel vaulted ceiling and arched opening to front with moulded architrave and
imposts. This lobby entrance has good frame of painted stone Ionic engaged columns
and entablature with fluted-reeded frieze and moulded dentil cornice, broken
backi to sides over plain surround. The entrance is approached by 5 stone steps
with wrought iron railings with turned baluster standards, with small urns, returned
to area. The basement has a 3 light Yorkshire casement and door of 6 flush panels
in centre. The interior retains a number of original features - ground floor
front room has plaster panels and dado with oval panel as overmantel, delicate
Adam style fireplaces here and in other rooms. Mahogany doors in fine moulded
doorcases. Hall archway to stair well supported by fluted Corinthian pilasters
with leaf bracket cornice and panelled soffit. Open string staircase the brackets
having oval moulding and wreathed swags. Thin square wood bannisters with delicate
leaf moulded panels between, continuous moulded swept handrail.
