6/11 Wall to kitchen garden at
Sutton Park

GV II

Kitchen garden wall. C18. Red brick in Flemish bond with flat stone coping.
Enclosed trapezoidal garden with curved north-west corner (at junction of Main
Street and York Road). Wall approximately 3 metres high with stepped brick
pilaster buttresses at regular intervals, closer together on outside face, very
broad on inside face of eastern wall. Southern wall designed as a heated wall
having flues, attached greenhouses (not of special interest) and attached
single-storey bothies with lean-to pantile roofs; round-arched entrance near
centre of this wall, a full height opening at its west end, and a cambered-
arched entrance at its east end. The east wall ramps up to north of the centre
(near ice house, qv) where it has brick-on-edge coping.
