WIDECOMBE-IN-
SX 77 NW THE-MOOR
2/140 Latrine House and Washing Place
- about 14 metres north-west of
Chittleford Farmhouse

GV II

Latrine house and washing place. Latrine house probably early C19; washing place
may be earlier. Latrine house is of granite rubble with slated roof. It is a
single-storeyed building on the bank above the stream bordering the garden of
Chittleford Farmhouse. Door on south-east side; no windows. Contains a wooden
seat with 2 openings above a shaft emptying directly into the stream. Simple roof-
structure of common rafters with occasional tie-beams. Washing place lies about 5
metres south-east of the latrine house, against a granite wall running back towards
the house. Set into this wall is a granite chute carrying in spring water. About a
metre in front of it is a large semi-circular trough, made of a single piece of
granite. This was formerly roofed; one granite supporting post remains.
