1878-1880, by William Butterfield. An L-shaped Gothic block, built of red brick,
with diapering of blue brick, stone dressing and slate roof. At west is a two-storeyed
block containing the hall on the upper floor. This has on left a four-light mullion
and transom window set under a gable. Four three-light mullion windows to right
with flat heads to windows. To right is a tall block that rises to five storeys
with a dormer. This has mullion windows. At right angles and on a higher level
is the other arm of the L-shaped block. This is three-storeyed with a projecting
gable block to right of later date although similar style. In the centre of this
block is the entrance which is marked by a gable in the roof. Ground floor has
mullion windows, first floor has narrow square-headed windows and top floor has
narrow segmental-headed windows.
Exeter Grammar School and Chapel form a group.
