Description

WEYMOUTH

SY6784 DORCHESTER ROAD, Upwey
873-1/7/586 (East side)
14/06/74 No.708
Yew Tree Cottage
(Formerly Listed as:
DORCHESTER ROAD, Upwey
Nos.706 AND 708)

GV II

Detached house, linked to No.706 (qv). Mid/late C18 and early
to mid C19. Rubble, S-facing range rendered, tile roofs. The
house stands set back from and gable-end to Dorchester Road;
this is a plain range, but with an L-plan building in parallel
with it, and a later range in brick added to the rear, giving
a Z-plan layout.
2 storeys, symmetrical front with 2 hipped canted plain sash
bays and a central C20 window above a C19 door and plain
transom light, in deep reveals, with keystone. The bays
probably replace earlier fenestration, as the plinth does not
embrace the projections. There are gable stacks. The earlier
rear block includes a 3-light casement at eaves level with C18
leading, above a further 3-light; this L-plan unit has 2
further stacks.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
