Description

The following building shall be added to the list;

TQ 00 SW CLIMPING CLIMPING STREET

16/10000 Guest House to
Bailiffscourt Hotel and
Country Club

GV II* (star)

Guest wing to large house. 1931-35 by Amyas Phillips for Lord and Lady
Moyne in C12 style, reminiscent of Boothby Pagnell. This is linked to
the main house by an underground tunnel. Built of Cotswold limestone
with thatched roof and stone chimneystacks. T-shaped, north front has
the appearance of a late Norman 1st floor hall with double arched window
and flight of external stone stairs to former arched doorcase now
window. Buttresses to ground floor. South west elevation has restored
C12 zigzag doorcase and a series of Norman style windows on the 1st
floor. South east elevation has mixture of pebbles and stone. Interior
is of equivalent quality to main house. The main bedroom has a very
fine double arched braced roof and another room has a superb C15 stone
chimneypiece said to have come from a monastery with decorated
spandrels, now of blank shields in quatrefoils and religious emblems.
Many other C16 and C17 stone fireplaces.
