HIGH STREET
Constitutional Buildings

Late C19 municipal hall. 5 storey in ashlar. Main frontage to north. Central
projecting wing with gable. 4 central arched central doorway. At 1st floor
an opening topped with rounded arch, and blank recess behind opening. On
upper floor 3 light mullioned window with semi-circular heads. To left gabled
bay with, on 1st floor, mullioned window of 4 lights, and on upper floor
similar but with large centre arched light. Right side is plain in the mullioned
windows. West elevation has gable and east large stack with top removed.
Both these elevations have string courses not continued on main frontage.
Shop fronts on ground floor. Tile roof. Building has a prominent position
at the junction between London Road and High Street, and is important for
this reason.

Constitution Hall, The Fountain and Nos 4 to 12 (consec) Middle Row form
a group.
