TL 85 NE HAWSTEAD THE POUND

5/71 Pound Cottage

GV II


House, late C15 or early C16, with C17 and C18 alterations. 3-cell open hall
house, 1 1/2 storeys and attics. Timber-framed and rendered; partly
underbuilt C20 at front in painted brick. Cedar shingled roof with axial
chimney of red brick; monopitch casement dormers. C20 small-pane casements
and battened and boarded entrance door. 1st floor structure inserted into 2-
bay open hall mid C17 and roof rebuilt using soot-blackened rafters from
original coupled-rafter roof; chimney inserted between hall and parlour. A
further cell to left and wing at rear added early C18.
