Walls, railings and gates to Christ
Church

GV II

Walls and gates to Christ Church (qv). c1862. By James Murray.
Snecked rock-faced sandstone walls and piers with ashlar
coping and quoins; cast and wrought-iron railings to N door;
wrought-iron gates to N, E and S entrances. Walls have
chamfered coping and are continuous with gate piers which have
ashlar quoins. Railings removed except at N door in The
Cloisters where Gothic cast-iron railings run from porch to
boundary wall to W and simple wrought-iron railings and gate
separate entrance from garden on N side of church. Gates of
wrought-iron with leafy tendril terminals to principals have
scrolled dogbar panels with spear finial and similar finial to
upper scrolls and rail. Gates at S entrance damaged at time of
survey.
