BIDEFORD

GV II

House, now sub-divided. Probably early C18, remodelled early
or mid C19. Solid rendered front. Slate roof, continued across
No 13 (q.v.). Old red-brick chimney on left side-wall; another
on right side-wall, its top rebuilt. 2 storeys with garret;
3-window range with doorway in middle bay of ground storey.
Doorway has flat hood on consoles; flanking pilasters with
rectangular incised pattern and 6-panelled door. Windows have
12-paned sashes, except for shorter middle second-storey
window, which has 8-paned sashes. 2 small dormer windows, each
of 2 lights with pent-roofs; probably inserted later.
INTERIOR: 1976 report on 12 and 13A mentions 'stud and panel
partitions on ground and upper floors. Apparently in deal not
oak with deep moulded edges'. Buttgarden Street is believed to
have been laid out c1700.
