Description

ST ISSEY LITTLE PETHERICK
SW 97 SW
4/223 South-east gateway to churchyard
of Church of St Petroc Minor

GV II

Pair of gatepiers, gates and coffin rest. Circa 1858, probably contemporary with
William White's restoration of the Church of St Petroc Minor (qv) in 1858.
Ashlar slate stone and dressed granite with pair of wrought iron gates. The gate-
piers, of ashlar slate stone with band of dressed granite, are square-on-plan and are
capped with slate slab forming coping and mounted by a pair of reset circa C15
crocketted pinnacles. The low coffin rest directly to the west, is slightly tapered
and the edges are chamfered.
The pair of wrought-iron gates are similar in design to those to the south of the
church (qv). The uprights terminate in arrowheads and the braces which form a 2-
centred arch to each gate, are decorated with scrolls.
