Description

DURSLEY LONG STREET
ST 7598
(north side)
5/20 No 1
30.6.61
GV II

Formerly weaver's house, now part of shop. Datepanel: SIE/1751.
Roughcast render; largely concealed timber framing; brick
chimney; stone slate roof. Rectangular; 3-storey with attic.
Long 2-storey attached shop building is not of special interest.
West side (facing Castle Street): scattered fenestration to lower
2 floors, all C20 to ground floor with central doorway. Off-centre
leaded casement to middle floor, small-paned casement to right;
central square datepanel. Exposed timber framing with row of
leaded casements to upper floor, some panels having rendered
infill, some incised decoration in render to left. Central gabled
attic dormer with leaded casement. North side: large leaded
casement to middle floor and timber framed casement row to upper
floor as to west side. Further fragment of decorated render below
middle floor casement. East side: row of timber framed upper
floor casements and blocked attic dormer. C19 brick chimney in
south-east corner. Probably built as weaver's house or houses,
this being indicated by the workshop-type windows on the upper
floor where the hand looms would have been situated. Of
considerable historic interest.
