Well house. Early C18. Built of brick, some black brick some
red brick. Square building of 1 storey with pointed arches on
all 4 sides, blank on 3 sides and forming a doorcase on North
east side only which originally had a door on pintle hinges.
Walls are in black brick header bond with red brick pilasters
at sides. Formerly pyramidal brown brick roof (now decayed).
Interior has domed roof, whitewashed walls and the outlines of
a filled in well. The name is supposed to commemmorate a
former owner of the Swainston estate in the mid C16 who was
2nd daughter daughter of Henry Lord Montague who started the
Barrington family ownership of Swainston.
