west of Greencroft
Cottage

GV II

Ice-house to Greencroft Hall (now demolished). Early C19. Coursed squared
sandstone with ashlar dressings; earth mound. Round-headed entrance on north
has voussoirs and rebated surround, with hinge-pin at right; flanking sloping
wall retains mound. South entrance at lower level has round-headed arch flanked
by retaining walls of thinner stones, with some brick patching. Interior shows
brick-vaulted tunnel, stepped down to brick-barrel-vaulted chamber; partly-
blocked floor about one metre below tunnel.
