SX 86 NW TORBRYAN

4/24 Buckridge Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Late C16 or C17, with later addition at rear. Stone or cob rendered to
front, painted to rear. Slated roof, gabled each end. C19 rendered stack in
right-hand gable; projecting stack with set-offs to rear of left-hand room. Two-
room and through-passage plan (rear door converted to window), both rooms on ground
storey probably heated by C17. Irregular four-window front with metal casements to
all windows. Doorway off-centre to right, has C19 or C20 gabled brick porch.
Secondary doorway at left-hand end. Interior: left-hand room (former hall) has
chamfered ceiling-beams with mutilated stops. Fireplace in rear wall with base of
slates on edge and segmental brick arch; at either side, tiny oven with
rectangular stone opening. Smaller right-hand room has chamfered beams with step-
stops. Gable fireplace with chamfered wood lintel. At rear a projecting
rectangular stair turret, with blocked stair light. Second storey and roof not
inspected.
