Description

SX 79 SW DREWSTEIGNTON

5/34 Butterwell approximately 20 metres
south-east of Drascombe Barton

GV II

Butterwell. Probably C18, maybe earlier. Built of roughly-shaped blocks of granite
the butterwell stands approximately 1.20m high and is square in plan. 3 sides are
enclosed and it is roofed with a single slab of granite. It is open on the north-
east side. It is built over a shallow circular well. There is no trace of any
shelves inside or a door; a stone slab is rested across the front.
This butterwell stands in the orchard and forms part of a group with the important
farmhouse, Drascombe Barton (q.v), its garden walls (q.v) and cider house (q.v).
