Widland Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Probably 1837 (date on barn adjacent). Rubble, slate roof. Broad,
double-depth gabled block with an entrance central to north-east gable end, and
another centrally to north-west wall. Two storeys and part basement. Entrance
gable end has central 16-pane sash over part-glazed door set in deep reveals
under an open gabled hood; small casement to right. Down steps, left, is splen-
did nail-head plank door. Back is 3 windows: ground floor has 3-light glazing
bar casements flanking central 4-panel flush door under 5-pane transom light,
and first floor has 2-light glazing bar casements. Front is 3 windows, all
16-pane horned sashes, except ground floor centre 12-pane probably replacing
former door; there are 3 small openings to the basement. Large late C19 brick
gable stacks. Cottage at right angles to south-west gable end not of special
interest. Interior: slate floored entrance hall with straight run stick
baluster stair to Doric newels; some panelled shutters; replacement fireplaces.
Flight of stone steps to basement.
