Description

PLYMTREE
ST 00 SE
3/130 Pightel Cottage
-
- II

Cottage. Late C17, enlarged in late C19 modernised circa 1980. Plastered walls,
the front is brick but there may be cob elsewhere; brick or stone rubble stacks
topped with C19 and C20 brick; slate roof, originally thatch.
Plan: 3-room plan cottage facing east. The right (northern) end room is the late
C19 extension. Thus the original cottage had a 2-room plan. There is a left end
stack and an axial stack between the centre and right rooms. 2 storeys.
Exterior: irregular 3-window front. The right windows are C20 casements, those in
the centre are late C17 oak frames with chamfered mullions (a low segmental arch
over the lower one). At the left end a C19 casement containing rectangular panes of
leaded glass over a C20 French window. The main doorway is right of centre; it is
in a C20 porch. Roof is gable-ended.
Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of this survey but original
carpentry is suspected.
