SE 38 SE NEWSHAM WITH NEWSHAM ROAD
BRECKENBROUGH (south side)

approximately 20 metres
20.6.66 to south of west gateway
to Thornton Stud

GV II

2 stone piers and iron railings. Late C18. Ashlar and wrought iron. To
each end is a square pier, rusticated with band, frieze, cornice and stepped
blocking course; above this there is the base for an urn. The railings are
plain and sweep back in a quarter circle to what may have been a gateway,
now replaced by a 1930s house. Forms part of a composition with western
gates and railings, to Thornton Hall, opposite. Thornton Hall is
demolished.
